A Boost Like No Other

At the heart of the Pandora Boost+ is our amazing ValveState™ technology. ValveState uses an arrangement of different types of transistors to produce beautiful tone that closely resembles the sound and behaviour of a triode tube. Building on that as the core, the EQ section was painstakingly researched and designed to provide unrivalled tonal flexibility. Depending on the combination of the treble, bass and gain controls, Pandora Boost+ can produce these characteristics:

  • Flat response from 85 Hz to 23 kHz (clean buffer)
  • Upper mid hump at 890 Hz (mid boost)
  • Linearly increasing response from 85 Hz to 7 kHz (treble boost)
  • +35 dB overdriven power boost with silky harmonics (all hell breaks loose)

With a large input resistance of 1 MOhm, it won’t “suck the tone” out of your guitar even if it is fitted with super-hot high impedance humbuckers. And with a very low output resistance and large signal drive capability, Pandora Boost+ can drive long leads or any other difficult signal chain with ease. If you have an annoyingly noisy amplifier, you can use Pandora Boost+ to effectively quieten down your rig. By turning down the gain or volume of your amp and turning up the Pandora’s gain, you can get the same power output level on the amp with less noise. This is possible because Pandora’s gain circuit is so quiet, only generating a minuscule noise signal.

So whether you are looking for a super-clean boost with EQ trim or a blisteringly insane amount of gain, Pandora Boost+ should be your go-to pedal for the number one position on your pedalboard. But don’t take our word for it! See what others are saying about the Pandora Boost+ in our on-line forum or visit one of our distributors and try one out for yourself.

Design Philosophy

The schematic of the Pandora started its life as the front-end of the M5 Hotblack amplifier. However, after building the first prototype, we realized that the FET circuit would actually be more useful if taken out of the amplifier and coupled with its own tone and gain controls. Doing it this way, the boost element becomes a means for applying both gain and EQ trim on your guitars. In essence, characteristics of each guitar can be “normalized” to produce the best results with any amplifier.

ValveState is an interesting technology. Essentially, it uses two different types of transistors in a special arrangement that makes the combination behave a lot like a triode thermionic emission valve circuitwise as well as sonically.

Here are some of Pandora Boost+ features:

  • Sparkling clean at low gain to the edge of breakup at full gain
  • Original discrete Class-A JFET design employing the Black & White TransValve technology
  • SNR 99 dBu over 80 Hz to 6 kHz at 17 dB gain
  • Equalisation: bass and treble boost/cut with crossover point at 890 Hz
  • Gain: 3 dB to +35 dB
  • Frequency response: 80 to 23 kHz -3 dB
  • Input resistance: 1M Ohm
  • Output resistance: 1.8 k Ohm
  • 9-18 VDC power supply for greater headroom
  • Battery drain: 3.9 mA
  • True bypass

Signature sounds:

  • All controls at minimum: TubeScreamer at minimum gain
  • All controls at 12 o'clock: sparkling clean flat preamp
  • Bass at minimum, treble and gain at 12 o'clock: treble booster
  • Bass and treble at minimum, gain at maximum: Highway to Hell
  • All controls dimed: now you've opened Pandora's box and she will wreak havoc on your amp's input stage

Once you have Pandora as the first pedal on your pedal board, you will never turn it off.
